THE PENNY KILLER by Steve Harms RELEASE DATE: Sept. 15, 2026 A provocative crime novel that confronts issues of buried racial prejudices. My Critical Analysis My overall judgment of The Penny Killer is that it is a strong and thought-provoking crime novel, although it is not without weaknesses . Its biggest strength is the way Steve Harms connects the murder investigation to racial prejudice, revenge, and the consequences of keeping painful secrets hidden. Because of this, the murders have a purpose beyond creating suspense. I think the violence is effective but sometimes difficult to accept . It makes the danger feel real and shows how revenge can become destructive, but I would have preferred some scenes to be less graphic. The violence works best when it develops the theme of revenge; when it becomes too intense, it can distract from the deeper social message. I also think Detective Roger Viceroy is important to the novel because he gives the reader a more balanced perspective . ...

Demon in the Wood is a short but  meaningful  story that gives readers a different view of  the Darkling. Its greatest strength is the way  it shows his loneliness, fear, and need for  friendship before he becomes a powerful  and dangerous figure. The story is  emotional without being overly complicated , and the illustrations add to its dark and  quiet mood. The book is especially interesting because it  does not try to make the Darkling  completely good or completely evil. Instead,  it shows how difficult experiences can  influence a person's choices. Although the  story is quite short and some characters  could have been developed more, it still  gives the reader a better understanding of  Aleksander's past. Overall, Demon in the Wood is a thoughtful  addition to the Grishaverse . It is a good  choice for readers who enjoy fantasy,  emotional stories, and characters with  complicated...

The success         Review                                     of                   " Murder at the Toy Soldier "  by Maddie  Day can be attributed to its deep exploration  of the central mystery of a cozy crime genre.  Although the story involves a brutal  murder, the atmosphere in which it unfolds  is surprisingly warm and safe. The author  manages to unveil the dramatic details of  the crime while simultaneously focusing on  the domestic and family aspects of the  characters' lives. Instead of being engrossed  in the gruesome investigation process, Day  prefers to follow up on the relationships  between the characters as Mac leads a  domestic life, taking care of her family and  friends. Unlike many other crime fiction  writers, she succeeds in por...
