Demon in the Wood is a short but  meaningful  story that gives readers a different view of  the Darkling. Its greatest strength is the way  it shows his loneliness, fear, and need for  friendship before he becomes a powerful  and dangerous figure. The story is  emotional without being overly complicated , and the illustrations add to its dark and  quiet mood. The book is especially interesting because it  does not try to make the Darkling  completely good or completely evil. Instead,  it shows how difficult experiences can  influence a person's choices. Although the  story is quite short and some characters  could have been developed more, it still  gives the reader a better understanding of  Aleksander's past.
